Postdoctoral research position in experimental particle physics

The Laboratory for High Energy Physics (LPHE, lphe.epfl.ch) of the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) invites applications for a postdoc position to work on the LHCb experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider. Our group bears reponsibilities in the operation and maintenance of the Inner Tracker until the end of Run 2 (currently scheduled in 2018), as well as in the construction of the Scintillating Fibre Tracker for the forthcoming detector upgrade (to be installed in 2018). We expect our new colleague to join the Inner Tracker group, and to take a prominent role in our physics data analysis effort. The position, which also involves teaching duties at Bachelor or Master level, will become available on September 1, 2015. The initial appointment will be for one year, renewable up to a total of four years.

Applicants must hold a PhD degree obtained within the past 5 years and have a solid experience in experimental particle physics. They should send their application, including motivation letter, CV, list of publications, and contact addresses of references, by e-mail to our secretariat (erika.luthi@epfl.ch). In addition, they should arrange for three letters of reference to reach the same address. All complete applications received before or on May 17, 2015, will be considered. More information can be obtained from Prof. O. Schneider (Olivier.Schneider@epfl.ch).

PhD student position in experimental particle physics

Applications are invited for a PhD student position at the Laboratory for High Energy Physics (LPHE, lphe.epfl.ch) of the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). The successful candidate will work on the LHCb experiment where our group (Prof. A. Bay, Prof. T. Nakada, Prof. O. Schneider) is strongly involved. LHCb is a particle physics experiment running at CERN's Large Hadron Collider and dedicated to the study of heavy flavour physics and CP violation. The position, which also involves teaching duties, starts on September 1, 2015. The PhD student will need to enroll in the Physics program of the EPFL doctoral school. After one year of successful probation, the initial contract will be extended up to a total of four years.

Applicants must hold a Master degree (or equivalent) in Physics, or expect to hold such a degree by September 2015. They should send their CV, motivation letter and names of references via e-mail to our secretariat (erika.luthi@epfl.ch). In addition, they should arrange for two letters of reference to reach the same address. All complete applications received before or on May 17, 2015, will be considered. More information can be obtained from Prof. O. Schneider (Olivier.Schneider@epfl.ch).
